I love an author who doesn’t care much for genre definitions. Everything I’ve read from Friederike Mayröcker seems to exude exactly this coolness - it doesn’t much matter if it’s a poem, a diary, prosody, or anything. Here, I offer a reading of this piece that seems to do it all — diary, poem, prose, what have you. I loved reading through this work. It took me ages. Like trying to eat gelato on a frosty winter morning. My tongue kept tripping over sentences, over the language, trying to condense the line into some logic I was more familiar with but I do believe that is the point — I am not familiar with the people, the places, the experiences of Mayröcker; yet I read her all the same, savoring the deliciousness in the pages.
